Volunteering
The Havering Volunteer Centre
Havco pleased to now host The Volunteer Centre for Havering.
Becoming a volunteer can be personally rewarding and help you to 'give something back' to your community. As a volunteer you will be giving your time to help charities and community groups improve lives, but volunteering can provide you with many benefits including:
- the chance to have fun doing something you've never tried before
- increased confidence
- a sense of satisfaction and acheivement
- the opportunity to make new friends and contacts with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- increased job and career prospects and new skills - over 70 per cent of employers would hire a candidate with volunteering experience over someone who has never volunteered
If you want to find a volunteering opportunity or have a volunteering placement vacancy to advertise, please contact : Elisha Fiador on Tel: 01708 742881, or email: elisha.fiador@havco.org.uk.
Capital Volunteering
Havco is also the home to Capital Volunteering in Havering.
Since September 2005 Havco has been running the Supported Volunteering project as part of Capital Volunteering Havering. Capital Volunteering is a pan-London initiative that tackles issues of mental health, social exclusion and stigma by increasing the number and range of supported volunteering opportunities in London. The project aims to support people with mental health problems to work actively towards their recovery by supporting them to volunteer in a wide range of settings and increase confidence, skills, social networks and employability. Our overall aim is to decrease dependency on mental health services and create opportunities to enhance self-esteem and self-confidence as well as to step out into mainstream organisations. It is free and easy to get involved. You can either self-refer or ask your key worker or care co-ordinator to refer you. Or why not join us at our monthly afternoon tea session (the second Tuesday of every month) at Mangiamo's Western Road Romford. Its a great opportunity to meet other volunteers, exchange experiences, socialise and if you are thinking of volunteering and would like to meet current volunteers before making a decision you are very welcome to join us, the dates for this year are:
- Tuesday 8th April
- Tuesday 13th May
- Tuesday 10th June
- Tuesday 8th July
- Tuesday 12th August
- Tuesday 9th September
For more information or to book a place at on of our afternoon tea sessions, just give Jacqui Randle a call on Tel: 01708 742881, or email: jacqui.randle@havco.org.uk
