Volunteer Centre Havering

HAVCO is pleased to now host the Volunteer Centre in Havering!

Volunteer Centre Havering is the new volunteer development agency for the London Borough of Havering. The centre aims to increase the number of volunteers and volunteering opportunities in Havering and to ensure a quality experience for volunteers as well as volunteer involving organisations. The centre performs the following 6 core functions:

Brokerage Service

  • A free brokerage service, recruiting and matching individuals interested in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in voluntary and community organisations in the London Borough of Havering. If you are interested in volunteering click here

Development of Volunteering Opportunities

  • Working with volunteer involving organisations in the borough to help them develop their volunteer programmes and opportunities

Information and Advice Service

  • We provide free and independent information, advice and training to volunteers, prospective volunteers and volunteer involving organisations.

Promotion and Marketing of Volunteering

  • The Centre promotes and markets volunteering to the public through local events and advertising in the media.

Campaigning on issues that affect volunteering

  • We take part in local, regional and national campaigns on issues affecting volunteering including Volunteers' Week and Make a Difference Day.

Strategic Development of Volunteering

  • We work with local public bodies, contributing to the Local Area Agreement target of increasing community participation in the borough.

Becoming a volunteer can be personally rewarding and help you to 'give something back' to your community. As a volunteer you will be offering your time and skills to help charities and community groups improve lives, but volunteering can provide you with many benefits including:

  • The chance to have fun doing something you've never tried before
  • Increased confidence
  • A sense of satisfaction and achievement
  • The opportunity to make new friends and contacts with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Enhance job and career prospects by developing new skills - over 70 per cent of employers would hire a candidate with volunteering experience over someone who has never volunteered
